What to Take into Disneyland

When you head into Disneyland for a day of fun there’s a mental checklist you should go through. Let me help you! (My list is slightly different for Disney World, check it out here.)

First, pack as little as possible. You don’t want to be lugging around a backpack full of unnessecary stuff when you come to the parks! REALLY consider what you need before you stick these things in your bag. With that said… here are my recommendations.

  • Water Bottle

I keep my hydroflask with me all the time in the parks! Grab a reuseable water bottle to save the plastic and save you money!

There are water fountains all over, but here are a few great spots where the water is the best!

  • Water fill station at Rancho del Zocalo in Frontierland – just walk up to the outside patio area and there is a great water fill station in the seating.
  • Water fountain in Toontown in Disneyland
  • Water fountain across from Soarin’ in Grizzly Peak Airfield, DCA
  • Water fill station inside the Downtown Disney Starbucks – you don’t even need to wait in line! There is a little water fill station attached the the creamer and sugar counter.

If you forget your bottle, don’t worry! You can get FREE cups of water from any restaurant with a fountain drink machine. (This excludes most bar areas, but includes most quick-service food counters.)

  • Portable Charger

If you don’t already have a portable charger you love, I absolutely would recommend purchasing a Fuel Rod. You pay $30 once in the parks at one of many little machines, and you can swap out your dead Fuel Rod for a freshly charged one as many times as you want, forever, for free! Since I am miserable at remembering to charge my  portable chargers and I own at least 5 that are always dead in my drawer, this has ensured I always have enough charge for the ‘gram in Disneyland. Here’s a video of how the swapping works.

  • Reusable Straw

Disney has committed to eliminating single use plastics by 2020, and these changes are rolling out pretty quick. Things like plastic lids and straws are by request only at this time, and will soon be eliminated altogether. Certain locations already won’t serve you a lid, but take that extra step and bring a straw with you! It takes almost zero space in your  bag to just slip it inside the side of your backpack or purse, and not only are you eliminating the amount of non-recyclable plastic in the world, you are making your Disney trip easier.

  • Ears

Okay, so you may not see these as ESSENTIAL, but for me, either a pair of ears or a Disney baseball cap is essential every time. I would be remiss to exclude them from the list. 😉

  • Disneyland App

You need this app! Download it ahead of time because the service in the parks is pretty miserable, and this app can hold everything for you! The Disneyland App has wait times, Fast Passes (and MaxPass), where all the dining locations are (plus you can see the full menus AND make reservations), entertainment times like parades and fireworks, and more!

My favorite part of the app though is that photo passes and character meets are also on here, and updated pretty much in real time. This is way more convenient then just walking around hoping for a photo pass for a great photo!

  • Sunscreen and Chapstick

This seems obvious, but if I had a dollar for every time I forgot these two things… I could buy one of the over priced Disney sunscreens.

  • Disney Chase Credit Card (if you have one!)

Not only does using this credit card give you some park discounts, you also get secret access to special card-members only character meet and greets AND you earn double points on all purchases while in the parks! Win-win-win. Here’s a snap of the card holder only photo spot in DCA.

Alright, well, that’s all that is on my list! Did I forget something? Any questions about something I didn’t list? Leave it in the comments or message me about it! I’m always here to help you plan for your best trip ever!
